ISO 31000:2018
Risk Management
Practical Guideline

In a world of uncertainty, implementing an effective risk management strategy supports organisations to achieve their objectives and long-term success in the face of unexpected and difficult risks.

Using ISO 31000 can help organisations increase the likelihood of achieving objectives, improve the identification of opportunities and threats and effectively allocate and use resources for risk treatment.

The guidelines can be used by any organisation regardless of its size, activity or sector. They provide a level of reassurance in terms of economic resilience, professional reputation and environmental and safety outcomes by providing principles, a framework and a process for managing risk.

However, ISO 31000 cannot be used for certification purposes but does provide guidance for internal or external audit programmes. Organizations using it can compare their risk management practices with an internationally recognised benchmark, providing sound principles for effective management and corporate governance.
